The Anointing of the Sick

By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them and indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ.

If you know in advance that you will be under going surgery or other treatment please see the priest after Mass and he will be happy to pray with you and celebrate the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick in church in preparation for your treatment.

The Sacramental Anointing of the Sick is not primarily to prepare a person for death, but to call upon the healing power of Christ here and now. Please do not wait until the last moment, especially not the moment of death, to be anointed. Having said that, never hesitate to call a priest when someone is nearing death.

Those in the hospital should be able to receive communion daily from one of the lay ministers. Just let your nurse or someone know that you would like to receive that. If you are going to be there for an extended time call, or have someone call, the parish office at 812-282-2290 and let us know if you would like a visit.
